Your initial consultation

Your Initial Consultation

Your initial consultation is likely to last one hour and you are welcome to bring along a friend or relative. We take an holistic approach to your treatment. That is to say we treat you as a whole person rather than just treating your symptoms. That’s why we will start off gaining a thorough understanding of your medical history. We will ask you things about your daily routines, your work, your diet, exercise and other things happening in your life. The stresses and strains of modern life can all impact you physically so discussing these things can help with our diagnosis.

We carry out a physical assessment

Physical Assessment

Next we will move on to a physical assessment. You may be asked to undress down to your underclothes if you are happy to do so.  If you feel uncomfortable then please say so and we will endeavour to work around this. We may check your pulse, reflexes and blood pressure. Very occasionally we may refer you for x-rays or an MRI scan. If your problem is a physical one then you will be asked to perform some simple mobility exercises whilst we study your posture and movement. We will then feel around the sensitive or tight areas to understand better what the problem is and what is causing it.

Giving you our diagnosis

Diagnosis

Once we have made our diagnosis we will tell you whether we believe osteopathy or acupuncture is an appropriate treatment and if so we will advise on the best course of action to take.

Treatment

Carrying out osteopathic treatmentDuring your initial consultation with Touch2Heal we will review your medical history and any lifestyle factors that may affect our diagnosis. We then carry out some physical tests (pulse, blood pressure, etc), check out your mobility and examine and feel the sensitive or painful areas before giving our diagnosis and course of treatment recommended. If we feel osteopathy or acupuncture is not suitable then we will say so.
