Morning Sickness

Morning Sickness

Up to 80% of women suffer morning sickness symptoms during the early stages of pregnancy. However the term morning sickness is a bit of a misnomer as vomiting or nausea can occur at any time.

The symptoms are most prevalent between weeks 6 and 13 after which the condition tends to clear up on its own although some women experience symptoms throughout their pregnancy. A few lucky women are able to shrug off morning sickness as an inconvenience but for many it is severely debilitating.

There are a number of things you can do to reduce the symptoms of morning sickness and these are well described on the NHS website. However acupuncture has been shown to be an effective remedy. At our clinics in Ashford and Chatham in Kent, Touch2Heal have successfully treated a great many pregnant women.

Morning sickness can be treated effectively with acupuncture

Morning Sickness and Acupuncture

The exact cause of morning sickness isn’t known but is likely associated with changing hormones in early pregnancy. Whatever the cause it is clear that the body’s normal balance becomes disturbed during pregnancy.

In traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture has long be used to treat morning sickness. The Chinese believe there is a flow of energy through the body known as Qi (Chee) which when unbalanced causes ill-health. Acupuncture is used to help restore that balance.

Treatment is quite painless. Needles are placed on the inside of the wrists, legs and feet, occasionally on the stomach.

Whilst results vary from patient to patient, many of the women we treat notice immediate improvement after just their first acupuncture session. For many the symptoms are all but gone after a few sessions.
